Kate Murphy, in-house designer, on what Blue Arrow builds in Charlotte and how the team works.
The team
Founder & general contractor
Connor Murphy
Founded Blue Arrow Group Management in 2021 after fifteen years in finance. Grew up around New York construction sites, holds a North Carolina general contractor license, and works on site with the trades, Matt and Kate through every build.
Designer & broker
Kate Murphy
Leads design. Ten years in travel and hospitality, then short-term-rental real estate from 2018, and a North Carolina broker license. Designs each home around how a room is entered, used and lived in, and sources every material and finish in it.
Project manager
Matt Smith
Project manager. Coordinates schedules, trades, progress and punch lists, and keeps design decisions connected to what happens in the field. Indiana University South Bend, 2022.
Here to stay
We live here. We plan to be building here in 2045 and beyond.
Connor and Kate live in Myers Park and are raising their family in Charlotte. Blue Arrow has built in the city's in-town neighborhoods since 2021, and the plan is another twenty years of it, not a portfolio to flip and leave.
That changes what a warranty means. The people who built your house will still be here, with their names on it, when you call about a door that sticks in year three. It is also why every home gets a pre-drywall walk with the buyer before anything is covered, why we name our subcontractors, and why Connor is on the site rather than in an office across town.
How we work
Three people make the decisions on a Blue Arrow home, and all three are on this page. Connor decides how it gets built and is on the site while it does. Kate decides what it is made of and how each room works, and she has stood in the framed room before she draws the kitchen. Matt keeps the schedule, the trades and the punch list honest.
We build with the same subcontractors year after year and we name them when asked. We publish prices and we publish what the house is made of. When a buyer asks whether a neighborhood is safe, we answer with what the police actually publish and an invitation to walk it at night.
